Trump confirms 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico will kick in on Tuesday

US President Donald Trump has said that 25 percent duties on goods from Mexico and Canada will start on Tuesday, with “no room left” for a further delay.  His announcement sent Wall Street stocks tumbling, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average plunging as much as 800 points. European defence stocks surged earlier on Monday as leaders pledged to boost military spending in the face of uncertainty over the US’s commitment to support Ukraine.
