Rylan Clark has been flooded with support from excited fans as he revealed a ‘secret’ he had been keeping for a whole year. The TV and radio star has revealed his next big move – and it’s taking him intergalactic.

It has been revealed that Rylan will star in the new series of Doctor Who. The 36-year-old will play the host of the Interstellar Song Contest – described as a version of the Eurovision Song Contest out in space – on the BBC show.

His role was revealed in a trailer for the new series, which launches in April, that was released on Sunday night (March 2). In a statement released by the BBC, Rylan said: “As a massive Whovian, getting the call to be in Doctor Who was a call I’ve always dreamed of getting.

“The episode is all my favourite things about the show with an added song contest set in space. It really is a dream come true. I can’t wait for everyone to see it. It really is going to be out of this world.”

Rylan also shared the exciting news on social media. Sharing the trailer on X, formerly known as Twitter, the BBC Radio 2 star said: “Genuinely never thought in my wildest dreams I’d be able to say I was part of the Whoniverse. A full on dream come true. Hope you enjoy.”

He also shared a video to his Instagram Story in which he could be seen enjoying a glass of wine on the sofa in his Essex home. “So I have been keeping that secret for a year,” he started by admitting. “I am so excited…

“I am a massive, massive Whovian. I love Doctor Who. I’ve loved it for years. And when I got that call I was so overwhelmed and I’m not gonna lie, I did have a little tear. Maybe a few more tears. It was the best experience of my life.”

Rylan went on to suggest that his episode was filmed after he hosted Dating Naked UK in Colombia towards the start of last year. He added: “”I’d just flown back from Colombia [and] went straight to Cardiff.

“I’m so, so happy. Like so happy that I can say I’m in Doctor Who.” He added: “Iconic. What a moment. This is like bucket list so thank you, Russell [T Davies]. I love you so much.”

The episode which features Rylan is expected to air on May 17, which is the same day that the grand final of this year’s Eurovision – held in Basel, Switzerland – will take place. The former X Factor star’s role comes following Rylan having been a semi-finals commentator for the BBC’s Eurovision coverage in recent years, while also covering the final with Scott Mills on Radio 2.
