Ottawa men, co-accused facing Thunder Bay drug charges

Two men from the Ottawa area and another from Quebec have been charged with a total of 14 offences following a drug-trafficking investigation in Thunder Bay, the Ontario Provincial Police reported on March 18.

A 32-year-old Ottawa resident and a 31-year-old from Nepean were both charged with three counts of possession of an identity document, possession of the proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and possession of cocaine.

They were remanded into custody and scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on March 19.

A 33-year-old from Lasalle, Que., was charged with three counts of possession of an identity document and one count of cocaine possession. He was released from custody and scheduled to appear in court in Thunder Bay on April 10.

An OPP news release said the Provincial Guns and Gangs (PGNG) Enforcement Team started an investigation into drug-trafficking activity in Thunder Bay in January. On March 5, investigators from the PGNG, Thunder Bay OPP, Thunder Bay Police Service and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service searched two residences in Thunder Bay.

The searches led to the seizure of: approximately 90 grams of suspected crack cocaine; $5,100 in Canadian currency; nine cellphones; one smartwatch; fraudulent identification; four digital scales; and packaging material.
