France said Tuesday it was expelling 12 Algerian diplomatic officials a day after Algeria announced the expulsion of the same number of French officials in escalating tensions between the two countries. Paul Smith, Associate Professor in French at the University of Nottingham, says that France being perceived as a haven for Algerian opposition figures ‘creates a political problem’ in the relations between the two countries.
