Striker Rasmus Hojlund last found the back of the net in the Premier League for Man United in a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest on December 7.
Rasmus Hojlund stretched his barren run in front of goal to 17 matches as Manchester United beat Ipswich Town 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The Dane was tasked with leading United’s attack for the fourth game running but he was unable to end his wait for a goal. He last scored in the league when United were beaten 3-2 by Nottingham Forest on December 7.
Amid a lack of alternative striking options, head coach Ruben Amorim has had to persist with the former Atalanta striker in recent weeks. Joshua Zirkzee, who was signed from Bologna last summer to compete with Hojlund, has recently shown signs of promise as a No.10.
As a result of having no other senior striker available, youngster Chido Obi has recently been promoted to the first-team squad, making the bench in the previous three games. He appeared in the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur and 2-2 draw with Everton.
Hojlund has scored just seven goals in all competitions this season, meaning it has become increasingly clear United will have to prioritise the addition of an established goalscorer in this summer’s transfer window.
As a result of his struggles, an increasing number of United supporters have become impatient with the Dane. A poll conducted by the MEN has revealed that the majority of those who participated want to see the 22-year-old offloaded in the summer, either permanently or on loan.
A total of 1,117 people participated and 40 per cent of them want to see Hojlund sold in the summer. 31 per cent of participants want to see him sent out on loan, while 29 per cent want him to stay.
As for the immediate future, a whopping 72 per cent of those who participated in the poll do not believe he should continue as United’s first-choice striker for the remainder of the campaign. However, a lack of alternatives mean that Amorim is going to have to persist with the Danish striker.
Since joining United in August 2023, Hojlund has scored 23 goals in 77 appearances, of which 16 were netted last season. He has just two goals in the Premier League this term.
